[2021. NEWSLETTER Vol.2] Gyeonggi-do Attracts Two High-Value International Meetings
Gyeonggi-do and Gyeonggi Tourism Organization ("GTO") signed MOUs on holding the "2022 East Asia Veterinarians' Conference" at the Suwon Convention Center and the "International Congress of ORL-HNS 2022~2023" at KINTEX in Goyang.
Expecting the successful attraction of hosting these two major conferences to become the foundation for the recovery of the MICE industry, GTO signed the MOUs on the 21st and 22nd for the successful hosting of the events and for local promotion.
On the 21st, GTO, KVMA (Korean Veterinary Medical Association), and Suwon Convention Center gathered at the Suwon Convention Center to sign the "Partnership Agreement for the Successful Hosting of the 2022 East Asia Veterinarians' Conference." On the 22nd, GTO, KORL (Korean Society of Otorhinolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery), and Goyang CVB met in KINTEX to sign the partnership agreement for the successful hosting of the "International Congress of ORL-HNS 2022~2023."
The "2022 East Asia Veterinarians' Conference" participated in by over 2,000 veterinarians is one of the main veterinarians' conferences in Asia and is a large-scale international conference held in turns in Korea, Taiwan, and Japan annually for academic exchange between the veterinarians in the 3 East Asian countries and to strengthen cooperation.
GTO personnel noted that “Since the COVID-19 pandemic was declared by WHO last year, most of the domestic and international veterinarians' conferences were canceled or reduced in scale; due to the recent increase in the global supply of COVID-19 vaccine, however, we are even expecting the conference to be held completely offline.”
The International Congress of ORL-HNS held every April is a large international conference participated in by a total of 2,000 visitors including about 200 foreign visitors, and this is the first time this conference will be held in Gyeonggi-do.
KORL personnel explained the reason for the final selection. “KINTEX was chosen because of the conveniences and satisfaction level of the domestic and foreign participants such as accessibility through transportation, convenience of the facilities, accommodations, and entertainments, etc.”
Groups participating in the partnership agreement promised various kinds of support for the successful hosting of the event, with each society also agreeing to provide active cooperation in developing various programs that can increase awareness of the hosting region among the participants to the conference.
“We expect this event to provide an opportunity for the MICE industry to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. We will continue to attract large-scale MICE events with high ripple effect on the regional economy to activate the stagnated MICE industry in Gyeonggi-do and to bring the industry back to normal,” said Choi Yong-hoon, Manager of the Tourism Division from Gyeonggi-do Province.
